Books glorious books
I have 40 mins to kill between coming home and going out again; instead of studying I am going to recycle this book meme from last year and watch Afterlife. I only managed to read 50 books in the past year (excluding stuff for school) numbers are significantly bit down from last year. But, I guess this is only to be expected.
My book of the year: Neuromancer by William Gibson, it seems to have taken me forever to read it but I am glad I waited till I was a more experienced reader. His prose are not to be wasted.
Best book published in 2006: Love Over Scotland by Alexander McCall Smith. His writing style is as addictive as crack which can be the only reason why I read five of his books this year and I stalk him around Manhattan when he is over.
Best book read this year, published in any year: The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It was not what I expected, and subsequently unable to put it down. I cried my heart out, but it was all worth it.
Best crime novel of the year: Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. Once you've read it you'll be "Hannibal who?".
Best 'classic' novel read this year: I didn't read all that many 'classics' but you can't beat a bit of Ibsen and A Doll's House. Go Nora, go!
Best non-fiction book read this year: Writing home by Alan Bennett. Requires no explanation for its inclusion in my list.
Best discovery of the year: Ian McEwan - don't care about the kurfuffle over Atonement.
Comments
I didn't read any of those books yet. I was trying to think of a great classic novel I read the last year, then I remembered that I read Of Mice And Men (for the second time)... such a great book.
